Jr. A wins over Nighthawks; U19 Elite rolls Rebels

The Philadelphia Revolution EHL Premier Jr. A and U19 Elite teams were in action over the weekend. The Jr. A team made the trek up to Simsbury, Connecticut to battle against the Connecticut Nighthawks, while the U19 Elite team made the short trip up to Lehigh Valley to beat the Rebels.

The Jr. A team left early Saturday morning for their two game series. It would be business as usual for the team except for goaltender Diesel Pelke. Following the trade of long-time Revolution goaltender Michael Cosentino, Pelke was asked to step up to take on a heavier workload. He would be tapped to start the first game of the weekend and he did not disappoint. The first year Jr. A goaltender put on a great performance to lead his team to a shutout 4-0 victory. Inspired by the 28 save effort, the team dominated at all facets. They started with a power play goal by defenseman Josh Vershinski with assists from Collin Appleton and Ryan Rowland. Their next goal came from Tino Alunni. In the second period, Danny Cangelosi popped one for his second point of the game (1G, 1A). Defenseman Ryan Rowland finished out the scoring with his second point of the game.

The next day, forward Bryce Witman would score the first goal for the Revolution but the Nighthawks had finally woken up and started to take it to the visiting team. The score was 2-1 in favor of the Nighthawks after the first period. The momentum shifted towards the Revolution in the second period when they would go on to score three straight goals. Goals were scored by Zach Bennett, Collin Appleton, and Austin Morgan. The Nighthawks would score one more in the third but they were outmatched as the Revolution would get a goal and two assists from team captain Richie McCartney and two goals by Martin Kapoian to win 7-3. Goaltender Nick Donofrio made 30 saves on 33 shots.

The U19 Elite team got scoring from six different players in their win over the Lehigh Valley Rebels in their only match-up of the weekend. Michael Giaramita scored the first goal of the game after a pass from Ryan Sharkey. Luke Aquaro added to his point totals with two goals and an assist. Goals were also scored by Jake Houk, Luke Ledes, PJ Breslow, and Josh Sklar. Goaltender Chad Simmerman stopped 10 of 11 shots to help his team to a 7-1 win.
